Bella Skill Builder Month 6

For the month of July We find ourselves doing Courthouse Steps for the Bella Skill Builder Month 6! Bella Skillbuilder Quilt Month 6 - Sherri McConnell & Fat Quarter Shop! I used the Creative Grids 6" Log Cabin Trim Tool Creative Grids #CGRJAWMN6 to do my blocks but you complete this months block without it! The ruler does make it much faster and for me was well worth it! I just got another pattern to make a log cabin quilt. I love these blocks and have made them the traditional way in the past and found it very time consuming! The ruler will help you get them done in a jiffy!

Facebook: The Fat Quarter Shop now has a Facebook Group for you to share photos of your blocks with other quilters! I just signed up! I cannot wait to see the color combinations all of you are using! Join us for the fun of it!

Pattern: Download the free July 2017 pattern

Supplies: Fabrics: Block 1 - Bella Solids Bright Sky, Bluebell, and Imperial Blue; Block 2 - Bella Solids Mango, Ash, and Amelia Apricot; Block 3 - Bella Solids Ruby Ice, Kiwi, and Caribbean

Thread: 50wt Aurifil Dove 100% Cotton Mako Spool Thread Aurifil #MK50-2600

I am really happy the way these colors all went together! It was fun, the orange block I used my background choice (Bella Solid Ash) but on the other two I change the background to the color I was using for the blocks! I got the idea when I was looking at Melissa of Happy Quilting: Bella Skill Builder - Courthouse Steps Block blocks with two different shades of the same color! Thank you Melissa! I used three colors but she inspired me! The two smaller blocks are suppost to be the same color but I want to spread some color around!

Be sure to check out all the Bella Skill Builder Bloggers throughout the coming months for more Skillbuilder fun!

Here are all my blocks spread out together, in no order! I like all the colors!

Hope you are following along and making some of your own blocks, if you are please join the Facebook Group and Show Them Off! It would be great to see them!

Until next time! Lisa

Whats up In The Boon Docks

Blueberry Park fabric just cheers up a room! I finished quilting the blocks and turned turned them into pillows. Covered up my old and worn couch pillows. In The Boon Docks: Sewing and Family is where I wrote about making these blocks and how I did it.

I started working on this Alison Glass embroidery pattern while my daughter was in the hospital! I drew it out using the hold it up to the window method (light box) with the fabric over the pattern, using my washable pen. So, when I am all done was the ink away with a washcloth! Only problem it gets kinda wrinkly. If I iron it the steam it my take away the drawing.

My Floss Story

Knowing I would not have a sewing machine available for 2 weeks I packed projects I could work on in the hospital! I packed this pattern and a variety of Aurifil Thread weights. I was going to do this project with all Aurifil Floss, but somehow the floss bag got left at home. Instead, I only had 12 wt., 50 wt., and 80 wt., so I used what I had! I am very happy with the results so far! The different textures can really be seen!

This is what I use to keep my threads in when traveling! On our trip to the hospital I grabbed the Aurifil 80 wt instead of floss! But it worked out great!

Until next time! Lisa

Snail Trail at the FQS

The quilting was a family affair David and I each did part since it was from us. I made him work for his credit in the gift. Plus, it makes me very happy to have this picture! If you sew you understand what I mean.

Here is a better look at the fabrics.

I wanted to have baby eye catches so that she would have things to look. The turles are one of my favorites!

You are going to love this pattern! It is available from the Fat Quarter Shop - Check out the free Snail Trail block pattern here!

Happy Birthday Fat Quarter Shop

Happy Birthday to all the people at the Fat Quarter Shop! Quilting Fabric, Quilt Fabric, Moda Fabrics, Quilt Kits, Online Quilting Fabrics & FREE Quilt Patterns | Fat Quarter Shop

Sewing and Family

Big Blocks

In The Boon Docks: Bella Skill Builder Month 5 , I was making half square triangles using 3" Half Square Triangle Paper Triangles on a Roll #H300 | Fat Quarter Shop and then came the Sew Sampler® Subscription Quilting Box for May with Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis for Robert Kaufman in it!

What beautiful fabrics!

There are so many blocks you can make with these triangle papers, I and when I saw this one on the internet, I had a idea! New Summer Couch pillows. The blocks are done but the pillows will have to wait for now.

Everything here sewn with Aurifil 50 wt. thread!

I find these 3" triangles super easy to use and make perfect (8) half square triangles at once and invested in multiple sizes!

Note: a 3" half square triangle is 2 1/2" when sewn!

I love getting Sew Sampler each month!

You definitely get a great bang for your buck!

Little Lilly and family are all doing great! Coming home has really made me feel the distance. This is one of my favorite pictures of my husband with Lilly. I got so lucky when I found this amazing man to share my life. He is the best husband and family man!

So many things have changed in our lives including us but we are still strong and in love! Happy Anniversary best man I ever met!

It is hard to believe we have been married for 20 years today!

We leave tomorrow for Cincinnati, OH for Kristin's surgery. Our youngest daughter has had serious pancreatic problems for 3 years. Hopefully, this will be her last surgery. Please keep her in your prayers! I will be gone for up to two weeks.

I got this new sewing tool called Clover Roll and Press Clover #7812CV ! It works great when you are chain piecing! Do you line up your seams for the next piecing, as you go? Of course, when I am done I still iron the completed block. Old habits die hard!

Geranium Dress and other makes

Hello Everyone, I have had such an exciting week with the birth of little Miss Lilly, her Momma's C-section, and no wi-fi in their home to do my posting! It is delightful being here but I guess you never think of something until you don't have it! Lucky me, I will walk down the road to a candy store to post! But hey whatever works and they offered! More about them another time.

Meet Miss Kennedy, my new kinda Granddaughter! She is Lilly's half sister by another Mom. She is sporting my first ever dress by me without a pattern, In Cotton and Steel's Panda fabric! She is such a beautiful and sweet little girl! She loved playing princess for me after I made her dress but is a little camera shy. I will claim her!

Miss Lilly Anne who arrived on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 8 lbs 4 oz, and 20 inches long, is sporting a Geranium Dress, also Cotton and Steel's Panda fabric! I have a link a few posts back for the free Geranium Dress Pattern (0 - 3 months) by Made-by-Ray! (No Internet while writing a post means I cannot add links)!

I cannot say enough good things about this pattern - simple, easy to make, great directions, and free! I will buy the more advanced pattern for later on when she grows out of this size! It will work for Summer!

Since these dresses are cotton I used Aurifil 50 wt. #2600 thread and it worked beautifully! I just love the sheen of the gray on the topstitching!

Other things I made this week!

I wanted a swaddling blanket that didn't look like it was from the hospital, I had one yard of flannel, I brought with me! I so wish I had brought more!

I measured the blanket 36" x 36", looked at its sewing, an overlocked stitch all the way around. So simple! The fabric is Katie and Birdie, Storybook, flannel, and again I used Aurifil 50 wt. #2600 thread! I used the strip of flannel leftover and made a burb cloth!

They came out so nice and soft!

I am a thrift store junky but they don't really seem to have them where I live so I was really excited to go to one with my daughter. We found this elephant planter that I turned into a pincushion, with some stuffing and a 5" square of Alison Glass fabric, to use while I am here or the rest of my life, it is just to cute!

Everyone is fine in my world, hope it is in yours! I miss my guy's at home and can't wait for them, but sometimes a woman needs her Mommy!

Hugs to all, I'll try to check in again soon. Lisa

May 1st is here and time for Month 4 of Bella Skill Builder Quilt Along over at the Bella Skillbuilder Month 4 - Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber ! This month, finds me in a Delivery Waiting Room waiting on my third grandchild to be delivered, baby Lilly Anne Proctor. While I am waiting I will share with you my blocks created with Month 4 Flying Geese Pattern!

Get the kit: Bella Skillbuilder Quilt Kits!

Video: Kimberly and Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life walk you through the Flying Geese block in this YouTube video!

Pattern: Be sure to download the free May 2017 pattern!

This months colors come from the Blues Bella Solids Colors of Moda Fat Quarter Bundle Moda Fabrics - Bella Solids - Moda Fabrics | Fat Quarter Shop, I bought this bundle and tried my hand at picking fabrics for shades! The background color is Moda Bella Solid Ash.

Then I took a picture to check the grayscale to see if it was in the correct order! Try that next time! I think it is such a neat trick!

I had never used this ruler before Small Flying Geese Ruler Quilt in a Day #2006QD | Fat Quarter Shop it is impressive! Works perfect! I am telling you if you make flying geese you need it, makes (2) at a time!

My finished blocks came out beautiful!
